The leading role is the 12:30 Women's 35+ 1/2/3 race, as it is part of the Bay Area Women's Race Series.

UCI WORLD CUP DH

Video of the UCI World Cup DH at Fort William showed some radical speed on a long and challenging course. Good to see a couple friends of mine Rachael Atherton, Tracy Mosley, & Greg Minnaar in the first video. Minnaar won my Dual Slalom one year at the Sea Otter, and he turned out to be a good guy off course. Atherton has always been pretty cool to me, and it is good to see her riding injury free. Another rider featured, Danny Hart, had a very good run at my Slalom tack at the Sea Otter this year. This guy is fast and can produce some serious speed. It is sweet to see the riders get up to speed in that first right hander on the top of the course out of the start gate. Then watch them launch the big jumps at the bottom after being completely winded from a long pedaling section near the end. Yes, pedaling sections can be the difference in UCI DH races.... Duh! Train hard and be fit or simply complain and cry like a baby that the pedaling sections are too tough! Ha!

Cross Country Series Points Have Been Updated Here After Race #5.

This Sunday, May 29, in Ft. Ord will be the ever challenging Cross Country Race #6. The sixth race in the XC Series is always one of the most epic days of the eighth race chase for the championship! Dreams can come true for those who make the podium, or nightmares become reality for those who struggle for strength, it all depends how you ride...

Expect lots of hills, and lots of sweet riding twisting single track trails!

TORO PARK CYCLOCROSS THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday the CCCX Series is going full force toward a classic & epic Cyclocross race at Toro Park, Salinas. One of the best courses of the season will be matched up to winter weather conditions of possible rain and chill. All the making for some true Cross racing, Nor-Cal style. The ground is super dry now, and if the weekend brings rain, the conditions will be spot on for Cyclocross racing to the max.

Toro Park is in perfect condition and the riding will only get better if some moisture is mixed into the formula for fun.

Please be courteous and friendly to any Rangers or other Toro park users. The Park has granted us a privilege to use the front area for this epic race, so please be appreciative to anyone in the area you may encounter.

The CCCX DH races at Toro Park are great stuff for Nor-Cal racing. Steep trails to work over your speed and turning ability. Toro Park DH racing will always be good action for riders to keep in tune with their DH skills. Toro DH racing makes you faster and stronger, and every now and then heavy rain can make the Toro tracks very tricky like race #3 of the 2010 CCCX DH SERIES. The latest World Cup DH looked off the charts! Heavy rain in the mountains turns any track into survival mode for the riders, and this World Cup was a classic due to over night rains. It was nice to see some of my friends from the Sea Otter Classic Dual Slalom succeed in Champery, Switzerland...

Northern California MTB racers played a huge role at the past weekend's MTB USA National Championships held at SolVista Bike Park on Granby Ranch- Colorado. The rocky mountain/high altitude racing is not ideal for Nor-Cal racers, yet 48 times a Nor-Cal rider was called to the podium & 9 of the best earned the coveted Stars & Stripes Champions Jersey. Jackson Stewart can be considered a CCCX racing legend! Stewart is a cycling talent who started out testing himself at CCCX Cyclocross races, as well as many other Nor-Cal cycle competitions, when he was just a young gun with dreams of being a great racer. The Santa Cruz native now rides for a major professional team - BMC - and has been in the mix at some of the most prestigious races on the global calendar. Like many riders in the long history of CCCX races, I can remember Jackson Stewart as a Junior racer who pushed himself harder and raced faster in order to make the gains needed to be his very best. Nor-Cal boasts a number of outstanding bicycle racers who have made it to the highest level of competition in the sport of cycling. Jackson Stewart is a rider who's hard work and dedication to the sport makes him one of the all time great CCCX racers and true Nor-Cal & CCCX legend!

CCCX THANKS JAMIS BICYCLES!!

Jamis Bicycles stoked the CCCX Series by providing a chance for it's racers to win one of their two super sweet 29er MTB frames at the final CCCX XC race of the season. The top of the line carbon DAKOTA D29 TEAM & the smooth riding steel DRAGON 2.9 were up for grabs with raffle tickets being distributed based on the number of races each rider participated in during the 2010 CCCX XC season.

In the end the DRAGON 2.9 was won by Ben Fox Shapiro(Santa Cruz Chain Gang) & the DAKOTA D29 TEAM was taken home by Scott Zavack(Buy-Cell.com). Zavack participated in every CCCX XC race in 2010 and thus he had the maximum amount of raffle tickets placed in the box for drawing!

Another CCCX success for 2010 was SB Racing rider Brian Butler. During the 2009 CCCX XC season the fast finishing Butler won the Expert 19-34 division. This year Butler backed up that division win with another Expert 19-34 division championship. I personally look for Butler to run the Pro division in next year's CCCX races, and continue his personal growth representing Nor-Cal as a tremendously fast Cross Country MTB racer...

CCCX XC SERIES FINAL

This Sunday will be the CCCX XC SERIES FINAL RACE.

The CCCX Series final is always a fun time out, and finishes off a great season of XC racing for the CCCX competitors. Hopefully after numerous CCCX events each racer is competition tough and ready to throw down some great rides and results over the summer. I strongly encourage Nor-Cal XC racers to continuously test themselves in competitions on the bike, and to build their fitness and strength by racing all year long!

The race course for the final will be one of the best of the season, with a few new sections thrown in to challenge everyone. Most of the race route is reverse direction from race #6, with a few new additions of trail ready and waiting to be pedaled.

Series prizes will be handed out after all the point totals are tabulated.

Armstrong is legit. The guy is a pure breed when it comes to riding. He is legend.

It is awesome to see him starting to assert himself against his adversaries before the Tour de France fires up in July.

Here Armstrong watches as Tony Martin slowly cracks up the Albulapass on stage 6 of the Tour de Suisse. Armstrong was on from, while Martin exploded on the 13km climb and lost his leaders jersey...
Near the top of the Albulapass Armstrong set tempo for the elite climbing group with help from Andres Kloden. The Radioshack team will need each rider to be firing on all cylinders to match the likes of Contador- the Schlecks- Liquigas-Doimo riders Basso, Nibali & Kreuziger- Cadel Evans, Michael Rogers, or riders from Sky, Garmin, Katusha, and Cervelo...

No respect for Armstrong! The American lead out the sprint of the elite group of climbers over the final 200 meters of stage 6. Yet there were no gifts to Armstrong, with Rigoberto Uran (Col) Caisse d'Epargne, Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver (Spa) Team Katusha, and Oliver Zaugg (Swi) Liquigas-Doimo all fighting past Armstrong to get to the line and upstage the 7 time Tour de France winner...

If Armstrong gets just a few percentage points better come the Tour de France, things are going to be very interesting on the road to the Champs-Élysées. It is hard to bet against Contador, however Armstrong is legend!

Alex Amaral doing his thing....

Alex Amaral(Point 1/Gamut) snapped off the fastest run at Sunday's CCCX DH race at Toro Park near Salinas. Many fans on course were astonished at his overall speed when Amaral came ripping through, and they could clearly see the Gilroy native had a good thing going. Fastest female on the day was Cathy Cheveron of Capitola. The top Junior rider was Robby McQuillan of Los Gatos. The course proved to be extra technical due to the super dry nature of the trails. Slick traction combined with tight corners and sweeping turns left riders fighting for grip when racing at full tilt.

CCCX DH COURSE 6/13/10

Here is a shot of the CCCX DH Course that will be used for this Sunday's race at Toro Park. 1.3 miles long with max speeds of 45 miles per hour- nearly 1000 vertical feet descended. Extremely fast fire roads take riders into single track trails that have sharp turns with slick traction due to the extremely dry conditions. The first 2 minutes riders are on their brakes constantly trying to control speed and the force of gravity. This course is seriously ripping if you ride it aggressively.

From it's first season on, The CCCX DH Series has boasted many outstanding downhill riders. Two of the top CCCX DH racers over the past few seasons have been X-Fusion kingpin John Hauer & Point One Racing main man Jimmy Amaral. Both of these racers display everything on course that equals speed. They each have an incredible desire to shred their MTB ride full tilt. They each boast their own personal style of trail ripping on two wheels. And they each simply love to ride their bikes super fast downhill! The 2010 CCCX DH season has seen these two riders dominate their peers and put on a classic match-up battle between adversary's on course and friends off course. It will be very interesting to see when all the dust settles for the 2010 CCCX DH Series, who will be declared #1 overall...

Kidwell's Paint Store and the beautiful Pacific Ocean make a spectacular backdrop for bicycle racing action...

The Pacific Grove Butterfly Criterium was a very big success this Sunday, with the downtown venue of P.G. and Lighthouse Avenue making for a classic cycling day for friends and family. Hats off to the City of Pacific Grove for allowing Ghost Tree Racing Club & VOS Racing to host this great event. A large amount of riders came from all over Northern California to enjoy the competition, and of course the best riders from Monterey County cycling were represented. Bicycle riding and racing is rolling along very strong on the Central Coast.

PG CRITERIUM 2010

This Sunday is a race I recommend to make- THE PACIFIC GROVE BUTTERFLY CRITERIUM.

This race has a very long history, and it is very nice to see the Ghost Tree Racing Club and VOS Racing join forces this year to put on this great event. I was at last year's edition, the first year of the PG CRIT revival, and I fully back this event with support- it is a fantastic show for cycle racing on the Central Coast. The city of PG should also be commended on their support of this race. Pacific Grove has been a big ally to bicycle racing lately, and it will be a awesome time in downtown PG for cyclists this Sunday.

CCCX CIRCUIT RACE SERIES- THE "FALL" EDITION

This Fall in Monterey County there will be a Road Circuit Race Series. The Monterey Peninsula can produce some of the best riding conditions of the year in August, September, and October- and the CCCX Circuit races should be epic this time of year. The course will be the same, and the racing will be super competitive as always. The race route is tailor made for aggressive racing, and I hope riders take advantage of this opportunity to compete. Monterey County has many outstanding racers, and this Circuit Series gives riders a chance to practice their craft.

CCCX DATE CHANGES

Due to scheduling conflicts with other XC & DH races held in the Nor-Cal region, the CCCX Series will be making two date switches for the upcoming CCCX events.

The CCCX XC race which was scheduled for Sunday, June 13 in Ft. Ord, will now be switched to Sunday, June 20- at the same location- Ft. Ord.

The CCCX DH race that was scheduled on Sunday, June 20 at Toro Park, will now take place on Sunday, June 13 at Toro Park.

These date switches will now enable the CCCX XC racers to take part in other races such as Napa's Skyline XC Race, Lake Sonoma XC Series, South Valley Endurance Series without conflict. The CCCX DH racers will now be able to make the NORTHSTAR DH event which was re-shuffled to June 20 without conflict. The CCCX DH Series will also have a few dates added for 2010 later in the year, to make up for the canceled DH event earlier in the year, and to extend the DH Series for 2010.
